According to reports, the leafs could be one of three possible destinations for Simon Gagne.
But Should Burke pull the trigger on a deal to bring in Gagne to play on the Leafs?
Simon is 6-0 / 195 lb and plays the left wing. He earns 5.25 and is in the last year of his contract. Gagne has struggled with injury over the past 3-4 seasons, but has been productive when in the lineup.
Last year he played 58 games and had 40 pts, the year previous he had 74 pts in 79 games, so he is truely an offensive threat when healthy.
I am really on the fence with this one, I think it comes down to how they aquire him. I think teams know Philly is in a vulnerable position with their cap after signing Zheredev, and Philly may have to waive the Vet. if that happens the Leafs are second on the waiver wire behind Edmonton. I could see the Leafs picking him up this way, Moving Kabs for lower played prospect or prospects, and Finger getting demoted to Marlies.
I cant see who or what Burke would be able to or willing to move in a trade for Gagne, unless he could throw Finger in the deal as well.... maybe Grabovski and Finger for Gagne?? I dunno, Flyers can take back salary, unless they settle for a mid pick in the draft. Just doesnt mesh....
Some reports suggest Burke looks to a 3 way to make it happen, But Burke shouldnt overpay for a salary dump, especially when there are rumors of Gagne hitting the waiver wire.
Time will tell, the next few weeks should be interesting in Leaf land and there should be some movement soon, I am reading the Kaberle drama will come together after the Kovalchuk decision.
What do you think? Should Burke make Simon Gagne to the Leafs a reality or Pass?
